Two Virginia teens are charged with causing cyclist's death 'after one of them struck the 59-year-old man during illegal street race'

Two Virginia teenagers have been accused of causing the death of a cyclist who was struck by a car during an illegal street race last week.  

Police said Anthony Tempesco, 19, and Hallam Guiler, 18, were arrested on one count each of causing the death of another while engaging in a race. They face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Indian Lakes Boulevard and Halifax Drive in Virginia Beach at around 8pm last Thursday.

Tempesco was driving a 2016 Ford sedan, while Guiler was behind the wheel of a 2009 Audi, reported The Virginian-Pilot.

In the course of the unsanctioned race, police said Tempesco struck 59-year-old Edward Richardson, who was riding his bicycle.

EMS workers were summoned to render aid, but despite their efforts Richardson was pronounced dead.

Both Tempsco and Guiler remained at the scene of the accident.

The two teens are being held without bond in the city jail.

According to recent Facebook posts, Guiler had graduated from Salem High School this past June. Multiple photos that were shared by his father showed the 18-year-old posing up with his silver Audi.
