Tourist, 43, took an AR-15 and handgun to Disney World because he was worried about his family's safety during BLM protests in Orlando

Florida police said a tourist took an AR-15 and 9mm handgun to Walt Disney World because he was worried about his family's safety during Black Lives Matter protests in Orlando last month.

According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the 43-year-old man and his family  checked into the Polynesian Village Resort during the Labor Day weekend.

Deputies said the man also had three rifle magazines with 90 rounds and two 9mm magazines with 20 rounds. The guns and ammunition was stashed in his tennis bag during check-in.

A bellman, who handled the man's bag, wondered why it was so heavy, made the discovery and reported it to his manager, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

The manager then contacted the sheriff’s office and because the man had a concealed weapons permit, he was not arrested.

While interviewing the man, deputies from the sheriff's office said he was asked why he brought the weapons in the first place.

Authorities said the man revealed that he 'brought the rifle with him for their family' safety because of the riots and civil unrest going on down south and in the Central Florida area'.

The man was referring to the protests over the August 7 police shooting of 22-year-old Salaythis Melvin.

Melvin was shot dead by a deputy outside the Florida Mall. Some of the protests too place near Disney World, which reopened in July.

In an incident report, the sheriff's office said after they checked his permit they gave him back his firearms and 'told him we appreciated his cooperation'.

No arrests were made because no laws were broken,” the sheriff’s office told the Sentinel.

While the man and his family enjoyed their vacation, security for the amusement park held onto his handgun and the rifle was stored at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge.

According to Disney World's website, visitors are not allowed to bring weapons on its property regardless of whether a person has a permit.
