Police launch investigation into death of student, 19, whose body was found by hikers near her Oregon university earlier this month

Authorities are investigating the death of a 19-year-old college student who was found in an Oregon park by hikers. 

Abigail Agustin-Paz, a sophomore at Willamette University, was found dead in Minto-Brown Island Park on October 2. 

No other details pertaining to the circumstances of her death have been released, Oregon Live reports. 

Agustin-Paz held several leadership roles on campus and was also employed at the Bistro Willamette coffee shop. 

'Abi's kindness, devotion, and contagious smile will be greatly missed and never forgotten,' the coffee shop said in an October 8 post.

Willamette held a vigil for the student on Saturday, the Collegian reports. 

'She touched many areas of our community and she will be dearly missed,' University Chaplain Karen Wood said in a statement.

In an email to students on October 5, President Stephen Thorsett said that there is 'no elevated safety concerns for the campus, the city, or Minto Brown Park at this time.'   

A GoFundMe made on behalf of the woman's family has raised more than $15,000 of its $20,000 goal.
