Do you know what happened to Mark? $1million reward offered for ANY information to help solve two-year-old mystery after a man was stabbed to death inside his Sydney apartment

A $1million reward has been offered for any information into the mystery of a man who was brutally stabbed to death two years ago in his Sydney apartment.

Mark Russell, 53, was found dead in his housing commission unit on Clisdell Street, in Surry Hills just after 11am on February 25, 2018.

Screaming and shouting had been heard from the apartment on the night before the father-of-two was killed.

A post-mortem examination on Mr Russell - nicknamed Sharky after his love of the Cronulla Sharks - found he had died from multiple stab wounds.

Before he was killed, the 53-year-old had finally been getting back on his feet after spending nearly two decades living on the streets.

'The past two years have been absolutely devastating for our family, as we continue to grieve every day for Mark and the life he could have lived,' she said.

'Mark was a strong and vibrant character who had been through tough times in the years prior to his death – but always knew how to bring a smile to friends, family and the local community.

'We hope the announcement of this reward may bring new leads to the investigators so we may finally get justice for Mark – a much-loved brother, father, and friend – and give our family answers as to why he was so cruelly taken from us.'

Earlier police said Mr Russell hadn't owed anyone money and hadn't been involved in any altercations.

Detective Acting Superintendent David Laidlaw said police were continuing to review CCTV as well as other forensic evidence to determine who was responsible for his death.

'Mr Russell's murder was a horrific crime that shocked the tight-knit community of Woolloomooloo and caused unimaginable heartache to his family,' he said.
