American driver is arrested after more than 100 migrants from Central America and Mexico are found crammed into a stolen tractor trailer without masks in Texas

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection canine broke up a human smuggling attempt on a highway in Texas, helping the agents detain 100 undocumented immigrants who were unlawfully in the country.

CBP said through a press release that agents on Interstate Highway 35 stopped the tractor trailer as it approached the checkpoint site Wednesday afternoon.

Following the initial search of a United States citizen operating the truck, the Border Patrol service dog alerted the agents and led them to the trailer where a secondary inspection took place.

CBP's agents were able to break the lock open and discovered the individuals cramped inside the trailer. It was around 60 degrees Fahrenheit inside.

The migrants, citizens of Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala, were not wearing personal protective equipment and received medical attention on location. None of the individuals required hospitalization.

The Webb County Sheriff's Office said the trailer and tractor had been reported stolen.

The undocumented immigrants and the driver were taken into custody pending an investigation by Special Agents of Homeland Security Investigations.

A CBP spokesperson was unable to confirm if there were any children present when contacted by DailyMail.com on Friday

A second CBP official told DailyMail.com that investigators didn't know how long the individuals had been in the United States for.

The official explained that CBP inspects close to 1.9 million trucks that cross through the port of entry annually.

The migrants could have been relocated from a stash house where they had been staying or it may have been possible that they had been inside the container when the driver picked up at the trailer at a station.

'We continue to see dangerous tactics being used by smugglers, including packing 100 people into a tractor trailer,' Laredo Sector Chief Patrol Agent Matthew J. Hudak. said in the press release statement. 'As COVID-19 remains a threat to our agents, our healthcare workers, and the public, smugglers continue to knowingly irresponsibly put everyone at risk in order to make a profit.'

The HS2 money pit: Ministers are told first stage of high-speed rail line may cost another £800m... six months after a budget increase saw total costs soar by £20.6bn to £43billion

Ministers have been told that Phase One of controversial rail line HS2 could cost £800million more than planned. It comes just six months after a budget increase saw total predicted costs for the first stage of the high-speed line soar by £20.6billion to £43billion. In a written statement to Parliament, HS2 Minister Andrew Stephenson said half of this figure is due to preparation of the route for construction involving 'more significant challenges than anticipated'. This includes the need to remove more asbestos than expected. Another 'significant cost pressure' worth £400 million has also been identified during the development of designs for Euston station. Tests may spare school bubbles from isolating: Children could avoid disruption to lessons by being screened for Covid more often under new proposal

Ministers will explore whether children could take more Covid tests instead of self-isolating to minimise disruption to their schooling. Sajid Javid said he was seeking ‘fresh advice’ on the current policy, which sees up to 250,000 pupils miss school every day. He revealed he would discuss the subject with Education Secretary Gavin Williamson after MPs expressed concerns about children being kept at home for ten days – even after a negative PCR test – because a member of their classroom bubble has been infected. It came as the Children’s Commissioner told how pupils had experienced ‘real trauma’ during successive lockdowns.
