'I was hacked' says moderator of crisis-hit debate after tweet to Donald Trump's enemy The Mooch - after president lashed out and called C-SPAN host a 'Never Trumper'

C-SPAN anchor Steve Scully says his Twitter account was hacked after a message was sent out to Trump critic Anthony Scaramucci on the heels of President Donald Trump calling Scully a 'Never Trumper' on Sean Hannity's show.

'Steve Scully did not originate the tweet and believes his account has been hacked,' C-SPAN sent out Friday in a statement.

The message between Scully and Scaramucci - a prominent Trump critic - read, 'should I respond to Trump,' and was sent out during Hannity's show.

During the president's call-in with the conservative Fox News Channel host, he referred to Scully as a 'Never Trumper,' a complaint he made via Twitter on Friday as well.

'Steve Scully, the second Debate Moderator, is a Never Trumper, just like the son of the great Mike Wallace. Fix!!!' Trump tweeted Friday morning.

Scully was supposed to moderate Thursday's second presidential debate in Miami, which Trump and also Democratic nominee Joe Biden have since walked away from.

The Commission on Presidential Debates announced Thursday that the debate would move to a digital format as the president is still recovering from COVID-19.

Scully would be with voters in Miami - where the debate was supposed to take place - with Trump and Biden participating virtually from other locations.

Trump immediately refused to participate - floating that Biden would use a teleprompter or be fed lines from staff.

Both campaigns put out warring statements throughout Thursday, with the Trump campaign trying to change the dates of the debate so the president could participate in person.

Biden ended up scheduling his own town hall - in Philadelphia - on the night the debate was supposed to take place.

Fox News Channel's Chris Wallace, the moderator of the first presidential debate, reported Friday that the Commission's decision to go virtual was, in part, because people didn't want to participate.

'So they were having great difficulty recruiting people, undecided voters to appear in the room because they were concerned that they would get the COVID virus from the president, who, as we say, is just recovering,' Wallace said.

Wallace also reported that staff, like the camera and lighting crew, were also concerned about appearing near Trump.

The White House still won't release information on when the president last tested negative for the coronavirus before he tested positive twice last Thursday.

Scully has the reputation of a fair, straight-shooter around Washington, D.C., but right-wing outlets - and Trump - have pointed to a six-week mailroom internship for Biden Scully had in 1978.

A spokesperson for C-SPAN told DailyMail.com that a 17-year-old Scully accepted a brief unpaid internship as an American University freshman as part of a class on Congress and the Presidency.

'Initially assigned to his home state Senator, John Heinz (R-PA), because slots were filled, the AU internship coordinator assigned him to Senator Biden,' the spokesperson said. 'For six weeks, he spent two half days (Monday and Friday afternoons) sorting and identifying constituent mail.'

Trump campaign senior adviser Jason Miller also tweeted a picture of Scully and Biden together in 2016, when Biden invited reporters who covered him over to the vice presidential residence.

The HS2 money pit: Ministers are told first stage of high-speed rail line may cost another £800m... six months after a budget increase saw total costs soar by £20.6bn to £43billion

Ministers have been told that Phase One of controversial rail line HS2 could cost £800million more than planned. It comes just six months after a budget increase saw total predicted costs for the first stage of the high-speed line soar by £20.6billion to £43billion. In a written statement to Parliament, HS2 Minister Andrew Stephenson said half of this figure is due to preparation of the route for construction involving 'more significant challenges than anticipated'. This includes the need to remove more asbestos than expected. Another 'significant cost pressure' worth £400 million has also been identified during the development of designs for Euston station. Mr Stephenson warned that further investigation is being carried out which 'could identify further pressure'. Tests may spare school bubbles from isolating: Children could avoid disruption to lessons by being screened for Covid more often under new proposal

Ministers will explore whether children could take more Covid tests instead of self-isolating to minimise disruption to their schooling. Sajid Javid said he was seeking ‘fresh advice’ on the current policy, which sees up to 250,000 pupils miss school every day. He revealed he would discuss the subject with Education Secretary Gavin Williamson after MPs expressed concerns about children being kept at home for ten days – even after a negative PCR test – because a member of their classroom bubble has been infected. It came as the Children’s Commissioner told how pupils had experienced ‘real trauma’ during successive lockdowns.
