'We're two human beings who are going through a tough time': Demi Lovato's ex-fiancé Max Ehrich calls for the singer's fans to stop bullying him online after their split

Demi Lovato's ex-fiancé Max Ehrich has asked the singer's fans to stop bullying him online following their split last month.

Speaking to TMZ on Friday about the negative comments he's got from trolls, the actor, 29, said it was 'ridiculous' how some people believed his six-month whirlwind romance with the singer, 28, was 'taking advantage of her fame.'

The Young And The Restless star explained to the publication: 'I just think we're both anti-bullying people, so people should stop bullying people.

'It's ridiculous, and what people think it's about has nothing to do with it. People just shouldn't believe what they read.

'We're two human beings who are going through a tough time... just leave us alone, let us make our art, our music, our movies.'

When asked about Demi, Max wished 'her the best' and 'nothing but happiness', before he said he wouldn't be getting back on the dating scene as he needed 'some time because it's hard.'

Earlier this month, Max was mourning the end of their relationship, as he captioned a sad selfie with a broken heart emoji.

The actor, who boasts 1.6M Instagram followers, wrote Friday: 'I ask you kindly to please stop and see a hurting human being behind his phone screen who just publicly had his heart shattered.'

The two-time Grammy nominee - who's a recovering addict - met Ehrich in March, began quarantining together immediately, got engaged in July, and then abruptly split in September.

'Demi's feeling a sense of relief after seeing Max's true colors,' a source told Us Weekly last Wednesday.

'She's in a really good place and already jumping right back into work and spending time with friends and family.'

That same day, Lovato leaked her break-up single Still Have Me with lyrics like 'I'm a mess and I'm still broken / I don't have much but at least I still have me / and that's all I need.'

'All the highs and now just lows / but it doesn't even matter, cause I'd rather be alone,' Lovato sings on the song.

'All my life disappeared / and I'm laying right here / while the silence is piercing / and it hurts to breathe.'
