Boy, 15, who was shot in the face on his way to school 'by another 15-year-old with a shotgun' is no longer in a life-threatening condition

A schoolboy who was shot in the face on his way into classes is no longer in a life-threatening condition.

The 15-year-old boy had been fighting for life since being blasted with a shotgun at 8.40am on September 7 on the Grange Farm estate in Kesgrave, Suffolk.

But police have now confirmed that his condition is 'stable' and no longer considered to be life-threatening.

Another boy aged 15 from the Woodbridge area who is believed to be a former friend of the teenager has been charged with attempted murder.

The injured boy was allegedly shot with a 12-gauge Beretta over-and-under shotgun after a confrontation.He was taken by air ambulance to Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, where he remains in intensive care with what are described as life-changing injuries.

Suffolk Police revealed two weeks ago that he had regained consciousness for the first time since the shooting.

A Suffolk Police spokeswoman said today: 'The victim currently remains in intensive care at Addenbrooke's Hospital, with his condition now stable and no longer considered to be life-threatening.

'However, his injuries are life-changing and he is expected to remain in hospital for a considerable length of time.'

The boy accused of the shooting was arrested just hours after the shooting.

He was held by police in Westwood Avenue, Ipswich, around five miles from where the teenager was shot.

He has also been charged with possessing a shotgun, with intent to cause fear of injury of another person, and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

The boy has been in custody since appearing before Norwich Youth Court and Ipswich Crown Court on September 9.

He is due to appear again for for a plea hearing on December 7. A provisional trial date has been set for January 25 next year.
