Convicted paedophile, 59, is accused of 'putting his hands down the pants' of a seven-year-old girl while she was out shopping at Coles with her father

Dramatic footage has captured the moment a man was arrested after allegedly groping a seven-year-old girl while she was out shopping with her father.

The girl and her father had been scanning groceries at a Coles in Karawara, Perth, at 5.30pm on Friday.

The 59-year-old man, who is a convicted paedophile, then allegedly approached the girl before touching her inappropriately.

He allegedly slipped one hand under her jumper and another between her legs before touching and scratching her bottom, Perth Magistrates Court heard on Saturday.

A staff member allegedly shouted at the man to stop while he tried to leave before security followed him around the centre until police arrived.

Bodycam footage showed officers confront the man before arresting him on the street.

The officers are seen surrounding the man before cornering him against a parked police van.

'Lean against the car or you're going to fall over,' a female officer says. 'You're under arrest.'

Her partner then places handcuffs on the man before bundling him into the back of the van.

The man was charged with indecent dealings of a child under 13 years and refused bail.

Perth Magistrates Court heard he had a history of offending.

Among the offences included two incidents of indecent dealing with a child under 13 and one of carnal knowledge with an animal.

Ministers have been told that Phase One of controversial rail line HS2 could cost £800million more than planned. It comes just six months after a budget increase saw total predicted costs for the first stage of the high-speed line soar by £20.6billion to £43billion. In a written statement to Parliament, HS2 Minister Andrew Stephenson said half of this figure is due to preparation of the route for construction involving 'more significant challenges than anticipated'. This includes the need to remove more asbestos than expected. Another 'significant cost pressure' worth £400 million has also been identified during the development of designs for Euston station. It came as the Children’s Commissioner told how pupils had experienced ‘real trauma’ during successive lockdowns. Sajid Javid said he was seeking ‘fresh advice’ on the current policy where children self-isolate, which sees up to 250,000 pupils miss school every day Dame Rachel de Souza described the class bubble system as ‘very very restrictive’, adding: ‘I think everybody would like it if we could get back to normal, as soon as possible.’ Former health minister Steve Brine tol...
