Tacoma middle school teacher is condemned for handing out flyers telling children they can have an abortion at 11 without parental consent

A middle school teacher from Washington State has come in for criticism after handing out flyers that advised students on sex and how to go about getting a abortion, without first getting the consent of parents.

The fact sheet, which was said to have been produced by Planned Parenthood, told eighth-grade kids aged 13 and 14 that they could obtain abortions 'AT ANY AGE' and without parental consent.

It went on to state they could also purchase condoms 'AT ANY AGE' and that someone could engage in sex as young as 11 so long as their partner was less than two years older than them.

For curious middle schoolers, the flyer details the age of consent and reminds them that anyone 14 or older does not need permission from a parent for STD and HIV testing or treatment.

A flyer was given to 8th graders that addressed issues of abortion, birth control, consent laws and condoms without first getting permission from children's parents

The school district claims that the distribution of such material was a mistake.

Eric Hogan, the assistant director of secondary education for the district said in a letter sent home to parents that the flyer was only distributed at Stewart Middle School in Tacoma and that 'corrective action has been taken with this employee.'

Further information on what punishment the teacher faced has not been shared.

'The flyer is not part of our curriculum and should not have been sent home with students,' Hogan said.

'Previously, Planned Parenthood taught within our schools and supplied the flyer that was distributed to students,' Hogan explained to Fox News.

'We discovered a binder of curriculum materials was left behind for an incoming teacher to use for this year, and this flyer was in the binder. Not realizing the flyer wasn't approved material, the teacher sent it home with students.'

The flyer also advised students they would be able to receive a prescription for birth control without a parent's permission and receive the emergency contraceptive Plan B without a prescription.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America have so far not commented on the incident.

The HS2 money pit: Ministers are told first stage of high-speed rail line may cost another £800m... six months after a budget increase saw total costs soar by £20.6bn to £43billion

Ministers have been told that Phase One of controversial rail line HS2 could cost £800million more than planned. It comes just six months after a budget increase saw total predicted costs for the first stage of the high-speed line soar by £20.6billion to £43billion. In a written statement to Parliament, HS2 Minister Andrew Stephenson said half of this figure is due to preparation of the route for construction involving 'more significant challenges than anticipated'. This includes the need to remove more asbestos than expected. Another 'significant cost pressure' worth £400 million has also been identified during the development of designs for Euston station. Mr Stephenson warned that further investigation is being carried out which 'could identify further pressure'. Tests may spare school bubbles from isolating: Children could avoid disruption to lessons by being screened for Covid more often under new proposal

Ministers will explore whether children could take more Covid tests instead of self-isolating to minimise disruption to their schooling. Sajid Javid said he was seeking ‘fresh advice’ on the current policy, which sees up to 250,000 pupils miss school every day. He revealed he would discuss the subject with Education Secretary Gavin Williamson after MPs expressed concerns about children being kept at home for ten days – even after a negative PCR test – because a member of their classroom bubble has been infected. It came as the Children’s Commissioner told how pupils had experienced ‘real trauma’ during successive lockdowns.
